Easy Decor Changes, IT’S THE SMALL THINGS.
Changing your home decor can change everything. Sometimes we forget about number one and days can start to mesh into weeks, weeks into months. With a few easy decor changes in your home you can bring back some life and uplift you even on your toughest days. In fact, a new survey from homegoods.com found that 93% of Americans found that a rooms decor does effect their mood. Its not hard to alter your daily grind with a little change of your home environment. Here’s a few easy to do, inexpensive adjustments that can alter your mood, your moment, your life even for just a little while.
LIFE
Fresh flowers never hurt anyone and the aromas are wonderful when you walk into a room full of flowers, I love my lilies and can never get enough of them. But if you hate watching them wither go for a plant, even a herb, it helps in the kitchen and makes the place look alive and fresh at the same time. Another idea is adding some branches to a vase somewhere as an natural accent. Some gnarled looking pussy willows in an empty corner will make an interesting focal point and they last forever and add a little movement. Try throwing some light under the branches and creating some shadows.
INTERCHANGEABILITY
- Pillow coverings. Some people like the home busy with accents and color, some like it neutral. Either way, changing up your cushion covers can add seasonal spice or just brighten up your day. Have a small collection ready for a change up whenever you feel the need to go green, red, polka dotted, stripped, animalistic or whatever your mood may be.
- While your at it, get yourself a fresh set of bedding and turn your bedroom into a different sleepy oasis.
- Go shout yourself a new shower curtain and throw in some candles and soaps that match, go blue, green, turquoise, take that bland bleached look out of your white bathroom and add a shade of rich color.
- For the kitchen, consider a few different sets of dish towels and napkins. Mine are black, but it couldn’t hurt to throw some red or patterned varieties out when black gets old and boring. Get rid of those paper towels, save the environment and brings some color to your kitchen all at the same time.

ARTWORK
Yes, some things just look cool, but make sure your some of the things that adorn your home are things that bring you back to an amazing memory, a moment in your life that will always be a minds blink away and can make you smile that easily. I might be a little different but on my wall sits a rusted piece of blue/green corrugated iron roof I found on a beach in Costa Rica . Odd yes, but I love it. On another wall sits a gnarled piece of drift wood I found at my brothers wedding in New Zealand. In my kitchen I have some hand crafted wooden spoons made by recycled native woods. In the hallway I have an old handcrafted hat I brought in Mexico. My thing is my travels. What is yours? Make sure those things that you surround yourself with are things that bring you to your perfect world in your perfect home and with it a smile.
